ABOUT THE PROJECT

How can Grassroots Innovations be utilised to enhance the resilience and well-being of rural communities in India?

"Roots of Resilience" is an immersive digital narrative projected onto a wall, offering a speculative glimpse into a future where Grassroots Innovations (GIs) stand as a driving force in rural Indian communities.

This project draws inspiration from the Honey Bee Network (HBN) and its three-decade-long endeavour to discover and document grassroots innovations (GIs) in India. It taps into the institutional frameworks established by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN), and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Through a speculative future scenario, the project highlights the crucial role of innovation hubs in fostering the rapid growth and development of GIs tailored to the Indian context.

Anticipating substantial environmental and social challenges by 2050 due to the escalating impacts of climate change, India aims for net-zero emissions by 2070, necessitating a transformative shift in its energy and economic systems. At its core, the project explores how GIs can enhance the resilience and well-being of rural communities in India, with a specific focus on the institutionalisation of innovations through innovation hubs. These hubs act as bridges, connecting growth from the informal rural sector to the formal urban and global sectors, thereby driving socio-economic transformation.
